Incident 03/09 – Rocky Bay

Thurs 19th Mar 2009, 19:28hrs Incident 03/09

Pagers activated at 19:28hrs by Valentia MRCC, Call in relation to a dog owner who had descended a cliff to look for a dog in Rocky Bay.
It was reported the dog had fallen from the cliff top. There is an 80ft drop to the sea.

Team assembled at Crosshaven station, then made our way to Rocky Bay, 8km from Base.

Dog owner found safe & well, But alas the dog did not survive the fall.

The Cliffs in this area can be very dangerous & mobile coverage is patchy.

Services Involved:
Oysterhaven Coastguard, Rescue 117 (Helo) On Standby.

Continuation search for person missing from Callout Sun 8th Mar.

Services Involved:
Rescue 117 (Helo), Crosshaven Lifeboat, Naval Divers, Guileen CG Unit, Cobh Gardai.

Celtic Voyager was also on Scene, She was scanning the river bed for the car. & passing this info onto the Navy Divers to investigate.

Pagers activated at 18:49hrs by Valentia MRCC, Call to a report of Car in River with 2 Persons, Cobh Cross River Ferry Area, Cobh.

Team assembled at Crosshaven station. Then made our way to Cobh. Cobh is 7km’s from Base

1 rescued by nearby fisherman, 1 remains missing after lenghty search.

Services Involved:

Rescue 117 (Helo), Crosshaven Lifeboat, BallyCotton Lifeboat, Naval Divers, Guileen – Ballycotton CG Units, Sarda Dogs, Port Ops, Cork City & Cobh Fire Service, Gardai, HSE Ambulances.

Incident 01/09 — Camden Fort

Camden Fort

Pagers activated at 19:07hrs by Valentia MRCC, Call to a report of person trapped in Camden Fort, Crosshaven.

Team assembled at Crosshaven station. Then made our way to Camden Fort. The Fort is only 2km from the Station. Gained Entry into fort with Crosshaven Fire Service & Gardai.

Casualty found & treated for suspected broken arm. Casualty handed over to Ambulance service.

Fort Camden Dates back to 1780. & there is a lot of history to the fort.

The Fort is owned by Cork Co Council. & Is closed to the public. & is a very dangerous place to enter.
